What is the reason for trimming?

 

They’re extending very far out of the moss I have around the base of the brom. I personally just don’t like the looks of it

Broms are resilient to root trimming - but the fact that they have grown the roots indicates they're searching for water or nutrients. If you do trim the roots, do it piecemeal to lower the risk of causing rot in the stem.

I would suggest you leave it alone - moss can colonize the roots, too and they provide some habitat/food for microfauna.

 

Cut 'em off! The roots do nothing but anchor the plant, if it's Neoregelia, so it will not harm the Bromeliad.
