It is just using up sugars left in the wood when the sap dried, nothing to worry about. I actually like when it permanently stains the wood darker in places like it did to the wood in my vivarium. Your mileage may vary, I was trying repeatedly to establish moss to all of the exposed wood and instead kept encouraging the mold to grow.
