I’ve used two part epoxy resins several times for treating closed cell polystyrene board insulation(PBI). There were areas in a few different viv builds that I carved PBI to form a river or waterfall. After carving and painting, I applied the epoxy as directions implied. My idea was to apply it in order to ensure longevity to the surfaces that were constantly being scoured by running water. I also applied it to some areas surrounding the water feature to add a bit of a “wet look”. The cured epoxy has a shiny/wet appearance.

I’m sure there’s many other applications for epoxy resin. This was just my experience using it.

 

I have used it to:

• replace silicone for covering foam backgrounds - mind, it may create sharp pinpoints and edges
• dip hemp rope to make fake lianas that dont't rot away - still covered the hardened rope with silicone and peat for natural look
• paint wood that does not like humidity, like vines for example - to waterproof it
