Just some random fungus.

I setup a viv a month ago and I'm getting a kaleidoscope of different fungi popping up. Harmless and will probably die off eventually, but for the time being it's microfauna food.

 

Looks like a slime mold, possibly Physarum polycephalum. Slimes start out as single-celled organisms, then get together as a multicellular plasmodium (that's the stage you are seeing) then later look fungus/mold like when the produce spores. They don't seem to do any harm in a dart frog tank. I usually get them in lab (on purpose) when I take old bark and keep it moist for an extended period of time.

+4 (or about) to slime mold. cool little organism if you ask me. harmless also.

 

I think slime molds are awesome! They can be a wide range of colors and they look even cooler under a microscope.

add one more for slime mold, since that's what it is. I love it when you get the semi-opaque orange variety of this! very neat fungus.

 

I believe they are considered protists, if I remember correctly.
