If you live anywhere close to a university, you might want to ask around their biology dept. for any excess glassware. I know I sometimes get notices from our department about spare glassware up for grabs (I'm at a university in Canada). You might be able to even get film canister sized beakers for your thumbnails.
So far, I've gust used plastic lids in my tank, but I'm currently trying to get my Azureus to take care of the developing tads and deposit them in the water feature.
