mites, tiny tiny tiny mites. I had to look at the "dust" under a microscope to figure out what it is. If you scrape some off onto a white piece of paper and stare at it under a bright light, you will see them move very slowly.

That was exactly my thought.

I spray for mites and keep the culture in a small cup that gets thoroughly sprayed with the mite spray. Is it just not effecting the mites?

That doesn't mean that the mites can't be coming from the cultures..
