Wasting frog

I need some help with locating some vitamins I guess...

I recently lost one turquoise/bronze juvenile auratus and am about to lose the replacement for that one I fear (this one is turquoise/bronze as well)....

The last one lost the stickiness of his tongue (or so we are assuming) and just wasted away. Are there any vitamins/medications I could give him? We are planning on putting him in an isolation tank and watching him more closely...

I really don't know what to do....

Thanks,

Thanks Brent.
Do you think the wobbliness could have been due to the beginning of bone deformation reducing mobility?

It's been awhile so I'm going on memory but my impression at the time was more of lack of muscle control. You've heard stories of our wolf but in his last days when acute kidney failure set in, his serum electrolyte levels crashed and his lack of muscle control prior to seizure was similar to the frogs. In all cases, both wolf and frog, recovery was almost immediate (within minutes to an hour) following therapy to restore electrolyte levels. I remember the first adult frog I treated was hopping around normally and appeared perfectly healthy within 2 hours following the first treatment. I continued the nightly soaks plus Ca dusted ff for a week before returning her to her viv and resuming normal feeding following an increased frequency of plain Ca dusting (following your advice at the time BTW - and thanks again).
Hi Brent,

After some pondering about it, I think what was occuring (pure supposition here), is that the lack of available calcium was preventing the muscles from relaxing at a more normal rate resulting in the wobbly and uncoordinated gait but the normal activity requirements were not sufficient to cause the animal to (constantly) seizure. I have not seen this in an anuran (but that doesn't really mean anything) but I will add it to the list of things to watch out for.

Thanks

I would say that's a pretty good supposition.
well guys, I gotta hand it to ya again. Now I don't feel so worried about oversupplementation now.

For months I gave my baby tinc Sandfire Dragon Ranch's treefrog at every feeding. Although it was a supplement designed for every feeding, tree frogs don't eat nearly as often as darts do, and there were many more insects being coated (adding to more surface area, more vitamins).

I continued and used it on my wild caught mantellas (who were very, very young at the time), and my tricolors from day one....everyday.

For a while, I began to cut back on it with my tricolors because I got afraid of Vitamin A poisoning.

Now after reading this post, I am happy I supplemented everyday while they were growing. I have limited the supplementation now to like once a week, as everybody is pretty much full grown. I now offer mostly another kind of supplement by T-Rex once a week. (i forget what it is called).

However, all my frogs (especially the tinc! ) have grown and colored up nicely, mostly off of tree frog dust every day. I just hope that my tricolors turn bright red soon.

Well, resurrecting a 10-year-old board...

Is pedialyte as a frog bath still acceptable? I have Baytril and have used it to no avail, would pedialyte be any different?

I thought my leuc was getting better, and brought him back to my classroom, but he immediately started doing poorly again after a good week at my house acting better.

I have used Repashy vitamin A about once every 3-4 weeks and use Reptical with vitamin D the rest of the time.
your really best off starting your own thread and document from the start. Just a tip.
