Any of the Imitator thumbs would make a wonderful first thumbnail. They do best in pairs. One pair per viv.

My thumb needs a partner. I only see the little guy before bedtime and sometime during the day if I look hard thru the viv. They are cool because they are so small. I dont ever see it eat, so I check daily to make sure hes in there and alive.
Some thumbnails normally are out for foraging in the morning from before the lights come on until a few hours after "sunrise" and again in the evening, so it is sometimes natural to not see them during the middle of the day or afternoon.
I would stick to one or two in a 10 gallon vert of whatever species you choose.

Yea first picture is a D. tinctorius "azureus", which is much larger than a thumbnail. Second pic is a varadero imitator.
