Does anyone have experience with the differences in these two bulbs? It is said that T8's are brighter. Also is there any information regarding how far a ballast can be positioned from a fixture? I intend to install several 48" fixtures in a room and would like to have the ballasts outside in a seperate enclosure.

Thanks, Tikifrog

you can install the ballast where ever you like so long as the wires are long enough. For the same length, a T8 is generally less wattage and is said to produce the same amount of light or more as a T12.

Thanks for the reply, I'd like to try the T8's. I'm going to research a little more and see if there is any "good" plant or herp bulbs in T8 size.

I also was wondering about using 8' bulbs as opposed to the 4'. Is there heat or light output differences?
