I have never seen anythin like that, it look like it about to explode. Is that a vent tad? It's tail also looks deformed.

Actually, it is a Red Amazonicus tad :( . The tail looks deformed because it was all ready dead when I took this really bad picture. I think it died the day before, so it is starting to breakdown. I haven't seen it before either, so figured I would post it and see if I can find some answers.

I would guess bacterial infection (bloat). I am still trying to find a good treatment for this as it seems a common problem. I mean good husbandry is what is needed to prevent it, but it's easy to get lazy. How often were you doing water changes? Feeding?

Hmmm..... usually fluid retention like that leads me to think that there is some kind of systematic failure. Maybe a mechanical blockage of the lymph? I dunno. We need a SERIOUS vet here.
