Wish that would have been on the photo contest. Combines the beauty of picture #6 and the uniqueness of #5 (not sure if those numbers are right, but the one of the leuc and then of the auratus catching the fly)

I want to thank Jbeetle, Benjamin, Matt, Spectabilis73 and Kyle for your wonderful comments. I really appreciate it.

Kyle I use the Canon EOS 10D and for this shot used my Canon 100mm Macro lens. I was looking at the Canon 8mp the other day on the internet and it was listed for $4,500.00 :( Still a little too rich for my blood, but oh man was it nice. :!:

Oh Dereck, I almost missed you! I want to thank you also for your wonderful comments on this one and the one in the contest. That was very, very kind of you and I truly appreciate it very much.

Spectabilis73,
While I really do appreciate that you love this photo, you might want to be careful about using other people's photos without permission. For people such as myself who make their living off of their photos, may not want them distributed by others without first asking permission. Now, having said that please don't anyone think that I am being too harsh or mean because I am not. I have no problem with him sharing this photo with his friends. I get a lot of requests for my photos for different and various things from desktop backgrounds to magazine ads. I almost always give permission for photos for things like school projects, desktop backgrounds, etc. and the wildlife rescue centers can have anything they want. On the flip side I have also had photos stolen and used. I recently had a photo stolen that had been an extremely difficult shot that I had decided to make a very limited editon of it and it was only available in one museum. Needless to say, I was quite upset. That is probably why it is still a sore spot for me. I also know that you sending your postcards to your friends is no big deal and I am very honored that you would want to, and I understand your enthusiasm. By far the most requested and biggest seller for me are my photo greeting cards.
Please don't anyone jump on me for posting this. All I am saying is ask, I have no problem with you using it and I would bet that 9 out of 10 people will be very happy to let you use their photo, they just want to be ask. I just hope that you can understand it from my point of view.

Ok, I am sorry, I will get off my soapbox. Can you tell I have a tendency to talk to much

Thanks for your clear and direct reply. For me, because I'm the only one I can speak for, it seemed appropriate and respectfully stated...And thanks for posting the shot. I think far to often the tendancy is to save a picture once it loads in a browser with no thought to its orgin or copywrite issues at all...at least I know that's my first reaction.

DOH  didn't know you made your living off of photography! I woulda thought twice before doing it... sorry... (luckily i didn't print out the picture) It is really pain when someone steals your picture, and believe me, students have stolen pictures and used them for the same science project... of course they would almost always get credit for the photo!
again, sorry about that

I waited for the 828, then was very very disapointed with the image quality. They did nothing but make a noisy 8mp. They should have stayed at 5mp and made the quality better. Granted it does still take nice pictures, but just too many issues for my money. The CA, alone needs fixed. I have held one and can say it is one of the best cameras in your hand, it just feels solid.

Post some frog pics. :)

Arklier,
While that may seem like the easy fix to stop someone from stealing photos, I have to tell you that anyone with the slightest bit of Photoshop experience can remove that mark without thinking twice. Marks mean nothing if they are intent on stealing it.

Spectabilis73,
You don't have to be sorry. I truly appreciate your understanding.

As an amateur photographer myself, i totally agree with all points in this post. There is a fine line between wanting to display your work and being afraid that someone will steal it. In this digital age, there is nothing stoping theives from taking your work, there is only means to prove that it is yours. I always print out a 4x6 print of my image and mail it to myself in a USPS envelope before i post it anywhere or put it up in a gallery. If you have a sealed and dated envelope delivered by a government agency (USPS) there is no way you would loose in a court case. I know several writers that use this same method for protecting their poetry, short stories, and novels.

If they're intent on stealing it, then yes a mark is not going to help. But the point is to mark the picture as yours while not destroying the asthetics of the picture. IE make it annoying to 'fix' but not make people think it's obtrusive. It's actually harder than you might think to remove them, without cutting the picture down. As a very last resort, you can always try a watermark, which is part of the picture itself. However, the company that does it charges money per picture.

I am sorry but I will say it again. Anyone with photoshop experience can easily and quickly remove this. It is not harder than I think, and it has nothing to do with "cutting the picture down."

i will second that, a watermark takes about 2 minutes to remove. There actually is a filter out there that will remove them in about 2 seconds. Sucks, but it's the way of things.
