Just a few moments ago, I was in my basement spraying down plants when I made the sudden discovery that my Strelitzia reginae had FINALLY bloomed!!!!! I cannot even tell you how thrilled I am for this! I am absolutely geeking out!

This plant has been in my collection for at least five years, if not ten, and it has never bloomed. I summer it outside in full sun, and have repotted it twice. In the winter, it sits in my basement under fluorescent lighting. This year, I installed a T5 quad fixture that I no longer wanted to use for my frogs (WAY too hot), and a family member gave me some new fertilizers to try from the hydroponics store where they work. I'm not sure exactly what finally triggered it, but my patience has paid off. Ah, man. I am so happy about this. :D

This is even after the dogs broke off a sizeable, mature offshoot that was in the pot just this summer.
