There are some mites that can decimate springtails, but lots more mites that are predatory on other mites or just eat detritus, and it would be almost impossible to tell them apart without a microscope and some understanding of acarology. There is also no way to get rid of mites that won't also get rid of springtails, and it involves tearing down the whole tank and cooking/bleaching all components so it won't be easy if you already have frogs in the tank either. How do you know you don't have a springtail population? They're not very noticeable even when established.

I feed the springtails in my tank just like I feed my cultures. I put a dash of the food on the wettest spot in the enclosure and spray it with water to wet it down. The springtails will come to it, as will the fruit flies.
