I am setting up a tank and using coco bedding as my substrate. Would the springtails do fine in this? What would I need to add for their food? Any other info. on setting them up in a tank would be great, such as how soon before adding frogs.

I went through and read a lot of the old springtail posts. I understand you don't add food to the tank. I couldn't find anything about how early to start it.

I'm also interested in any info about this as I am setting up a tank also. Not sure what the substrate will be yet...but probably soil, coco, leaves and moss.

I would reccomend seeding with springtails as soon as you can. The springtails may or may not populate. In most warmer vivs, I've noticed the most common variety, which is temperate, don't do as well.
They should do OK on coco bedding, but I know they love peat and spagnum moss.
A layer of leaf litter will also help.

The more common springtail most of us has it the temperate variety which like cooler temps, about 70F. I have them but use them as a treat for my frogs as they hardly ever get established in a tank. I seed my tanks with the tropical springtails as they like warmer temps, and they usually get established quite well as long as you seed the tank before frogs are added, or you add the springtails under the substrate to keep them from being eaten by frogs before they can establish themselves.
