Soil for plants that will be used in vivarium (growing outside of viv)

Does it matter what soil you use if you're growing and propagating plants that will be later used in a Viv? Particularly since you wash them anyway? I got an organic topsoil (Scott's brand) that was pretty cheap and was wondering if it matters to the health of the viv? All fertilizers are generally going to be washed off regardless right?
