So just wanted to hear some thoughts. Has anyone experienced talking to a vendor at a reptile show where you are blatantly being lied too. I was told he could get O.Histronicus! HA! when asked if he meant the "REAL!!" O.Histronicus, or was it O.lehmanni, or was it O.sylvatica he quickly curled in a ball and started everting the convo, clearly that was a lie as I went into more detail he got more evasive. Then he told me the "cristobals" I was looking at were panamanian imports, when asked who brought them in he again dodged and ran for the other side of the vending table and the story changed to -"he got them from a buddy In Florida"... he said all types of things like oh they are so sick! he hopes they dont sell, they have amplexed!! they are a pair...when 1) clearly the frogs right at my eye level were juveniles and would not show breeding behavior, and 2) O.pumilio does not show amplexus. I got the frogs for a great price so It was my score but was quite disappointed that a vendor would talk such $#%@ just to sell a frog. Especially when he clearly knew nothing.

So a vendor lied to you, dodged questions, changed stories and yet you still bought frogs from him?

At a great price for knowing what they are yourself and if theyre healthy? Why not?

my thoughts too. I stood at that busy table for close to 45 minutes watching the frogs eat what was in the tank and hop around. Minus the vendors horrible ability to tell a straight story the animals were healthy, eating, and when I offered a sweet price it was accepted, so yeah why not. I wouldnt have bought anything but the frogs were too good to walk by luckly for him.
Its a catch 22. Buy them to rescue them, or refuse to purchase from someone like that. Same thing with WC...
Don't you think he was right when he said the frogs were panamanian imports?

Not sure, I hope they are. His story changed so much that I questioned it for sure. I emailed the guy whos card he gave me so I may just find out they really are. But one minute they were panamanian imports, the next a buddy in florida had them, the next he didnt want them sold etc etc. Hopefully they are from a "buddy" in florida who brought them from a panamanian importer...we shall see.

I agree, pick your poison I guess.
Unless CB which is highly unlikley from a vendor at one of these shows they are panamanian imports no matter who he got them from.
Sounds like a salesman... knows enough to be dangerous, but no where near an expert.

I treat those vendors/froggers that I do NOT know the same as any salesman, most are hired for the day or event working off commission. For them it's all about the sale.. so, buyer beware. As long as YOU know what you should everything should work out fine. 90% of the time I will visit and purchase from known vendors like Black Jungle, etc... (sorry, not a plug, just an example). Sounds like you kind of enjoyed 'toying' with him, LOL.. The big issue is the 'true newbie' frogger that goes to his/her first Reptile show looking for darts specifically and gets someone like you described. Bad for the Hobby!!... We had too many of those incidences many years ago and this specialized hobby grew at a VERY slow snail's pace. Too many known reputable breeders around now to allow that to happen again. I do enjoy looking at every show to see if anything new has come in, but have learned they (vendors) will tell you anything to make that sale. I usually come back home with half the money I took to spend nowadays..

So true. yeah you picked up on it, I had some fun lol. I had just never experienced selling like that at a show before, like you said though its for people who dont know anything that it could really be a problem for..

interesante.. hopefully they get back to me about it. Its more for breeding purposes than anything, just nice to have the info you know.
