Fabricating in wood is easier than metal for most of us, and wood racks are necessarily bulkier, and prone to rot if dripped on. The cost of quality materials (anything better than fir 2x4s) can often be more than bakers racks anyways. Personally, for my one rack I bought a metal bakers rack, and built the tanks to fit it.
