Today I was able to take some footage off 2 Benedicta males wrestling.

I noticed some people don't know the difference between courtship and wrestling / fighting, therefore I think it could be helpfull by uploaded this clip.

I can assure you these 2 are males. My females are allot bigger and more round in shape. Also the paterns on their back reveal to me these are 2 of the 4 males I have in the tank. I have all my benedictas for over 6 years now.

That is interesting. I've never seen males fighting. I have several large community groups and the only time I see fighting is if I add a new female to the community (always jumped by a resident female) or if a male is calling (can hear one calling male in your video) and two females are wrestling over him. The males are just more peaceful and seem to avoid the drama or at least it seems that way in my vivariums.

Thank you for sharing your insight and replies, I realy appreciate it!

Most of the time my Benedicta are quite peacefull, I have only see them wrestle for a handfull of times since I got the group to move in this tank a few years aggo (2015).

At what time in the video do you think you hear a Ranitomeya call? As far as i can tell there is no benedicta calling in the clip. I only hear one of my a pumilio calling, mayebe your are confusing this one with a Ranitomeya calling?

To me it is lways interesting to read how people have different experience with similar frogs.
Can I ask : What is the ratio you are keeping them and in what size of tanks? How long have you had these groups? Why are you adding other benedicta or mixing up males/females in the tank?

Greets,

Tijl
