Put a piece of fruit in your viv as a feeding station. It's not fool proof, but it'll help keep your flies in your viv longer....

preventing escapeeeeessss from exo terrarium
okay so im kind of tired of all the flies escaping my exo terrarium. It almost seems like more escape than what get eaten by my frogs! I dont have any problem with the escaping from my other viv but this one seems to have mystery holes everywhere!!! I sealed everything up top and the only place i can think of where they are getting out is through the front doors. haha Is there anything you guys have done to make your exo terrariums escape proof. I know there is some stuff you can mix up and set out by your terrarium that draws all them to it but i would rather make that my last resort since i dont want to have to change it out all the time.

I put fruit in there but they still dont stay in very long. Just kind of frustrated with them getting out all over the place. I think all have to look of the thread that someone posted that atracts the flies that get out of viv and into a jar with something in it. I think it was honey mixed with something cant quite remember. Thanks!
Have you done anything extra to FF proof your exo terra?
Piece of peeled banana in the tank helps. It also starts to grow its own fruitfly and maggot culture.
Answered my own question...I sealed everything up top and the only place i can think of where they are getting out is through the front doors.
They can definitely get out through the gaps between the doors. You can run a bead of silicon between the door and the side glass (put a piece of saran wrap on the door side of it so you don't glue the door shut...) and that will create a barrier. The same can be done between the doors too if need be.
The vent under the doors is another area of escape. I'm fairly confident that flies could fit through the grating on the inside and come right out the tank. A piece of noseeum mesh siliconed to the inside of the vent can solve that and still allow air flow.
Depending on how you sealed the top, the clips where the factory top clips in seem to have a small enough gap that flies could get out. I wouldn't think this is as big of a deal, but it's worth looking at.
Then there's the sliding pieces on the backside of the top for wires and pipes. Make sure they're closed up/covered if by some chance you've forgotten and left one slid to the open position.
Other than that, I'm not sure what else you could do to FF proof everything.
i keep a small cup of vinegar and water near my tanks. the escapees are drawn to it. half drown and the other half stay on the cup making for easy recapture.

I used a piece of silcone tubing (air tubing for an aquarium bubble line) I cut to length and then split it in half and attach to the door. outside of the hinge area it makes a real nice seal. I'll try to post pics when I get home.
