2 broms from the neoregelia genus keep opening to the point where they're not holding water. Other than that they appear healthy, no signs of rot whatsoever.

Do they:

a) need better light

b) need less moisture

c) need a compitent keeper

d) all of the above

Thanks!

If you could elaborate what you mean about opening up and not holding water that would help, but it sounds like lack of light. If it's new growth, or even just growth period, then under low light conditions they'll get gangly looking and this will cause them not to hold water.

Thanks Justin

They're opening up dracanea style...the leaves are hanging out and down like there's a big fat leuc sitting on them. I'll change the bulbs in my light and work on maybe getting some compacts.

If you want I can post a pic

Sounds like poor lighting to me. Does this mean I'm a hot-shot now?

i googled bonsai one time (a few weeks back) and was amazed at what people use for bonsai. there were tons of different junipers (idk if the are native to MI), and what amazed me most were azaleas. there are some nice looking azalea bonsai out there.

To me it sounds like insofficient lighting. I have had this problem with some of my neoregelia in the past. I just try to give them a little more direct light. Good luck.

I have had this happen with too much lighting. I should elaborate a little here, the light was just putting off too much heat and was too close to the brom.
