So I was inspired by (totally jealous of) JoshH's plant growth chamber. So I made one. I had to change a few things, though.
I used
3/4" x 1 1/2" PVC composite board, labeled as TuffBoard at HD.
Corrugated plastic board for walls and remnants to prevent drip on lights below
Silicone I clear to seal it all up.
Egg crate shelves
2 All-weather 48" t8 fixtures per level
1 Mini desk fan per level
Sliding glass doors, overlap about 1" in the middle, I cut these from plate glass from HD, the track is repurposed white trim used in fiberglass bathroom walls I think... I'd have to look at the label.
The two bottom chambers are 18" deep 50" wide and 24" tall, the top chamber is 3" taller... I know, weird, but I designed this as I went, solving material problems. I wish they were all 24" tall.
The most important thing for me : weight. I live in am apt so I am planning to move next year. Each chamber is a separate unit, so it's modular so it's a breeze to move long distance. If I really wanted to I could build another one and stick it in the middle. Also, it's not unsightly. I used all white materials so it's not hideous in my bedroom.
The lights keep it in the mid-80s.
The bottom level has two t12 fixtures I had lying around that I might replace.
Any comments or suggestions? I'm always more than happy to listen to advice!
