Hey,
So I know it is common to have holes in backgrounds to put plants. Now I noticed a lot of people use like pot shaped inserts that have a lot of open space. Can I use plastic pots with drainage holes just the same?
Also I'm assuming that it is easiest to use epiphytes so that harmful fertz and nutrient rich soil are not needed. Are these pot inserts usually used for epiphytes or for other plants with their own soils?

Im about to start building 2 large rock pieces for my future paludarium and want to get it right the first time if possible.
