This is a very special little species from PNG. All the of the plants in an area bloom at once and the flowers only last 12-18 hours. Their cue is thought to be changes in barometric pressure from intense thunderstorms. Interestingly enough, this plant hasn't bloomed in over a year, and a series of strong fronts and thunderstorms rolled through over the last week. The plant immediately exploded with buds.

Very cool looking orchid. I'm not a plant person and if I were to see the plant when it was not in bloom I would have doubted it was even an orchid.
