Is it ok to still feed from a culture that is 1 month old? It still has flies in it but its looking kind of brown and nasty (i havent been using it). Should i just get rid of these flies or is it ok to use them? Thanks.

I feed my ff cultures until the media cannot support more flies (crashes), however, do not use those flies to start new cultures to avoid: (1) transfering mites (2) transfering molds (3) relying on old/malnourished flies to start a new culture.

If you're not doing so already, start new cultures from the first 50+ fly hatching of a fresh culture. Once those flies are trasfered, feed until the production slows down or the culture is depleted.

I have been using new flies for new cultures, i was just wondering if these old flies were useful or just trash.
