Feel a need to rehouse my Vittatus out of the 18x18x24 theyre in. Got a 36x18x24 and decided to twist the normal buttress root and do a section of root.

Foam insulation cut with a hot knife, sanded. Due to be painted with drylok and maybe expanding foamed together lightly. Might add branches off the back foam to fill the higher areas. But ive never once seen my Vittatus climb.

Yea, i got it at Home Depot. They had 2’x2’ boards for like 6$ each. Fairly easy to shape how I want.

Polystyrene Rock Wall

Alternative to Expanding foam Background construction?

I personly dont trust the stuff I would look for an alternitive
polystyrene hormone problems just scare me to much to use it (sure is cheap though!)

I’m aware of the endocrine disruptor. The xps will be fully sealed before placing and then sealed again with a second coat. And i’m looking into better materials. I’d buy a section of actual roots if I could.

If it is fully sealed it's likely not an issue, I would recommend polyurethane foam instead, the same stuff great stuff is made of, you can even mix it yourself and make castings.

Dendroboards is famous for people introducing feedback that is not a;ways of the type desired by the OP. But rest assured, as in this case, it is meant with best of intentions. So if the last exchanged soured you a bit, please come back. The build looks awesome and a lot of us want to see how it progresses. It's nice to see P. vittatus getting a sweet crib too, they are too often overlooked for their flashier cousins.

And heres the build. I’ll had orchids and climbers over time. The back is underwhelming to start, but it’ll grow.
