I've gone the pot route with 1 or 2 of my GS tanks and I pretty much just added holes to the bottom for drainage and it was all good. My GS was also siliconed to the glass so the drainage didn't really interfere with anything. If the soil stays too saturated, most plants I've used before tend to rot after awhile, except pothos, nothing short of a nuclear blast will kill those things.
Here is what I plan on doing..
Makig a layer of GS then carving a place for my pots and laying out sme tubing.
I haven't been able to find small solid pots so I can drill some holes and silicone the tubes onto the pot....
I've used straws in hanging planters before but now I'm gonna be making drainage tubes with aquarium tubing for drainage...
