Today, (3) three N. kaiseri arrived in the mail and I couldn't be happier. These are my first newts and are amazing creatures. Been keeping reptiles/amphibians for decades and never kept a newt. Hardscape setup was inspired by tanks at Aquarium Design Group in Houston. Wood is Spiderwood (Water Azalea root), white Nat Geo sand, and black Mexican beach rocks.

Any plans to put some aquatic plants in there? Anubias, java fern, some moss, etc, are all great low light, low requirement aquatics!

I plant to add some Java Fern for sure. It is crazy, can't find any around Austin area right now. Might add an Anubias down the road but keeping this one simple.

Those are amazing newts. I had the pleasure of keeping a few of them, when I did a trade with a forum member. Sounds like you have a nice home for them.

Get rid of the wood. Wood leaches tannins which the newts don't like as they come from areas high in limestone. I would also suggest going to a sponge filter instead of the unit you currently appear to be using

Those are beautiful, i have a tiger salamander, newts and salz make awesome pets
