Hello everyone, I’m looking for feedback on what’s up with my egg clutches. I’ve been breeding darts for 5yrs now and have yet to run into this problem I seem to be having. I had to get rid of most of my collection due to the army and I’m just now rebuilding my stock. My D. aurataenia have lain, to date 113 eggs in film canisters since the last part of Feb. Which is great but they’re not developing at all. When I first notice the eggs I wait 2dys before removing them. Some clutches I have left alone to see if they develop but again no such luck. I just switched over to cocohuts with dishes hoping this would help. I know I have 2.3 which are about 2 ½ yrs. I have even separated to make 1.2 and 1.1. The eggs look great till the second or third days. I also have noticed when their first laid a small white spot on the bottom of the eggs. Is this normal? Is my male not doing his job? Could there be something wrong in my tank? I also have a pair of D. tinc colbolts 2 1/2yrs which use to produce good eggs. Lately they have been turning bad. Again they seem to be doing the same as the D. aurataenia. I use RO water with tadpole tea, dust my foods almost everyday, temp is keep around 74-76 degrees. HELP PLEASE

It sounds more diet related to me, but this is a guess.
Are you mainly feeding fruit flies? What suppliments are you using and how old are they. I might even think about trading the males around and see if that does anything, doubt it, but never know.

i'm feeding ff, pinheads, termites, springtails and dusting with Rep-cal calcium w vit.d every other day , once a week with Rep-cal herptivite.

Hi Rich,

I had something similar happen. My ventrimaculatus and auratus stopped breeding late summer/early fall. For other reasons, I moved my collection to the basement (from the second floor). It is significantly cooler, with a nice drop in the evening. My ventrimaculatus have not stopped laying since I moved them late last year. All I did was move them. They are still in the same tanks, with the same lights (same distance from tanks to lights), same food and supplementation. It is just cooler.

I will have to check, but temps at night can dip to the low 60s during the winter, normally hitting 68-70. I have glass lids on all my frog tanks, so they retain heat reasonably well into the night. The inside temperature of the tanks is a little cooler and once the summer comes, will be quite a bit cooler.

Ive had the same thing happen with auratus in the past. I want to think it may have been diet related but I have fed them the same and now things are back to normal. Interested in any ideas as well.

Maybe they just need a break.
I might seperate them for 2-4 weeks and then put them back together and see if that helps. But hard to see them being wore out on 115eggs.
