I have two tadpoles that a fellow breeder gave me and they are maturing to a frog very, very slowly. He says it might be that its not warm enough but I put the little containers in the tank, and they still are growing very slowly. Any help?

Hi Etch,

The three major things that predict the size and speed of tadpole growth are temperature, food, and space. Temperatures around 70deg are fine for D. leucomelas. I feed human grade spirulina once a week (which is when I change their water). I keep my tads in about 6-8 ounces of water and raise them individually. There's a lot of variation on these techniques amongst members here, but this is the way I raise tads and have very good success.

Good luck, Richard.
