I'm trying to figure out what is the best method to use for providing light to my future D. azureus. I like the idea of using compact flourescent, but that can get a tad pricey. I think what I will do is go with the screw-in flourescent bulbs in a dome fixture intended for an incandescent. What sorts of methods do you guys use? Do you use a regular flourescent fixture without the mirrored reflector? How does that affect your plants, if at all?

It depends on the tank size there are a number of cheap lighting sources. Also what type of plants do you plan to use. You can use a standard light hood for the size tank you are going to use in most cases.

They make a 6500k screw in flourescent you can put in a dome fixture. Some Home Depots have it, some don't. Around $8

Try your local Wal-Mart pet dept. They have a 6500k 10 watt screw in cf for less than 5 bucks. Works great with a good reflector.
