...sounds familiar
I ended up with two females out of a trio (I'm pretty sure), and I had an extra male around the house so I took one of the females out. At the same time I took what I thought were all of the eggs out of the tank. A week or so later I saw the male carrying a tad around, which made me nervous, since the broms in there don't hold water too good anymore. So what I did was put some small cups (2oz) with some water in there, and also put water in the film cannisters that are suction cupped to the walls.
He kept carrying the tad for about two days, then finally deposited the tad in a film can, very cool to watch, but I thought he was going to carry it forever!

He finally dropped it off in a film can about halfway up the side of the tank, in the corner of the sidewall and the cork, angled toward the cork, half full of water, under a bromeliad, and behind a mini-spath. This is also where they lay eggs most often.
The cups I just put in on the floor, I only had a little water in each of them, but I still had the same fears you do. (I took them out as soon as I seen the tad in the film can.
Enjoy!
