I am in the process of wrapping up a 40g breeder build - should be done within the next few days.

I think I want to put pumilio in here, but I'm looking for suggestions, based on the following criteria:

1) I want a species on the larger end of the pumilio spectrum
2) I want a species on the bolder end of the pumilio spectrum
3) I know this third factor may be tough because I've heard more than a pair is tricky, but I'm looking for a (possible) species that will do well with 3 or 4 in the tank.

Thanks!

Or you could get a bigger frog, does it have to be a pum? You did say you think you want pumilio, keep in mind to build the viv to suit the frogs. Obligates as a whole should be kept males one to a viv, you can go with multiple females. Blue and Black Jeans are among the biggest.
Or you could get any number of ranitomeya athat are bigger and suited for the 40.

Bastis and El Dorados are both good choices... one thing to keep in mind is that since the parents will be raising the froglets, you'll have more than just a pair in there at one time when they start breeding.

I've been building it with pumilios in mind. Nice large water-holding broms and lots of ground area for hunting. Also going to have some nice ground cover plants in general.

I like both of these. And yes, I was wondering, if I have a 1.2, will that cause problems with breeding?

I love my El Dorados. I have 1.1.3 and they are pretty bold and make beautiful music. They put me to sleep at night and wake me up in the morning. :D

The oldest froglet has been moved to her own tank. Not because there were any problems, but, because I wanted to make sure they had enough room. They are in a 20g vert. I moved her at 5 months OOW. The others are 5-6 months OOW now and I'm not seeing any aggression from either of the adults.

Don't know if that tells you anything, but, it gave me a chance to talk about my pums. :p

i like the look of el dorados, but the possibility of having multiple colors of the same species of bastis seems pretty cool as well. going to be a tough decision...

Black jeans are awesome, but pricey. They have become my absolute favorites, even over the blue jeans, el dorados, bastis, and cristobals.

If you do decide on el dorados, I have some extra adults.

Froglets will cost you around $250 to $300 each. I can't venture a guess as to the price of sexed adults, but they'd probably run close to $1,000 for a sexed pair.

Also, I have heard that black jeans might be re-classified and no longer considered pumilio.
what kind of price are we talking here?

Really??? What would they be classified as? A new specie or under the histo's or something?

Okay, back to el dorados or bastis...haha. Thanks for the suggestion though. Maybe when I get out of law school and start pulling in decent $, I'll get black jeans.
