Louis - take a look through the "Member's frogs and Vivariums" section. There are at least 4 or 5 posts in there where Java Moss is growing on land and/or wood.

I'd look up a couple for you but I'm knee deep at work.

Java moss growth

The java moss in our vivariums grow quite rapidly like 2+ inches per month in rapid growth times, normally about 1" per mo to two mos. Lighting plays an important part the ones under our "Gro-lux" lamps rip out at 2" + per month.. but we tried to let it grow at this rate year round for two straight years only to find it brown and turn to mush.. so I guess seasonal lighting to mimic it's natural environmental routine would best serve this plant.. Good Luck... Peter
