At our place we have a water filter thing under the kitchen sink. I dont think its a RO unit but thought i'd just check. It only contains 2 untis, a sediment filter and a carbon filter, is this a RO system or not?

No, it is just a filter. An RO unit has a membrane that you push water across with pressure. A typical system would have the two filters you have, perhaps another one, and the RO cartridge itself.

A typical RO system will look something like this:

With a sediment filter and carbon filter in the two vertical stages beneath the bracket, and the RO membrane in the white horizontal housing across the top.
