i have an old 67 gallon tank, its 36" wide, 29" tall and 15" deep. it used to be a water dragon tank so it has a fern, coconut soil stuff, half of a hollow piece of wood as a sleeping area, frog moss, a pond, temp/humid gauges, heat light and uvb bulb and branches. i have a reptifogger but its not making fog anymore.. i heard that you shouldnt use a light for heat, just for day/night cycle. i think i just need more frog moss and leaves and the food. do i put the flies on a plate or do they just crawl around? since i have a big cage will that make feeding harder? thanks - jake

Go to the member gallery portion of this forum. Does your tank look like their tanks? If not, your tank may need some upgrades. If it looks similar you still need to research the type of amphibian you plan to keep and adapt your tank to its needs. Read build threads and take note of some of the methods used to design a tank appropriately suited to dart frogs. If your tank was not designed using any of these methods chances are you tank is not appropriately suited for PDFs.

To answer your questions: flies crawl around but putting them in the same place every time you feed let's the frogs know where to look for food in a big tank.

Welcome to the forum.

Clinton J is right in that keeping pdf (poison dart frogs) is nothing like keeping water dragons. Now that you are a member make use of the search function which is now available to you. It will easily answer most of your quesions regarding dart frogs.

If I were you I would start my tank from scratch. At the very least ditch the substrate if you feel you can thouroughly sterilize the tank decor.

To answer a couple of your q's though, I feed my pairs in the same place every day. They are waiting and know the area. That way I can remove the magnolia leaf that becomes saturated with supplement powder when needed. For growout tanks and tanks that house more than a pair I try to feed in different areas to prevent dominant frogs from dominating the feeding area.
