Hey guys,
I have been cleaning my breeders for a while now, once a week. I was wondering what everyone else out there was doing?
thanks,
Julio

I do not have any breeder tanks yet, but for my 6 tanks I do this:
1. hand mist
2. Wipe the glass
3. feed

Everyday.

Yeah pretty much the same as Kyle, i dont realy go down and clean the poop or anything like that if thats what you mean. I just whipe glass and mist, and feed.

When I have time...

I mist frogs who are not in breeding tanks(don't have running water once a day) while our breeder tanks are misted 3-4 times a week. More, if I want to induce breeding.

Cleaning the glass is done when someone is coming over to see the frogs or when I have the free time (which has been very limited) to get them cleaned up. I try to limit the interferance in the breeding tanks as much as possible. I found early one, the more you mess with them the more I stressed them out..., the more chance you have for escapes, etc. In addition, I usually only clean the front glass completely, because the algae provides a visual barrier between the tanks.

After the tanks are cleaned I will keep the glass cleaned up by using a heavy stream from the sprayer on the front glass.

Although the tanks might 'look dirty' the algae is another plant that takes care of the waste products in the tank - so I let it go and keep the tanks clean when I can.

6 times a year I do a water change in the tanks using a python. I do this by turning the pumps off and drain all the existing water from the tank. I then replace it with distilled and start the pump again.

Right now all our tanks are set up as breeders, so there isn't much to see. I am working on a couple of display tanks, and those will have the glass cleaned once a week.

So, for those of you who wonder why I never post any tank pics, it is because they are very inadequate compared to everyone else's.

agreed

I have to agree with everyone else on this. As far as cleaning goes, there really isnt much to do as the plants and bacterial action take care of this...hence ecosystem. Occasionally I'll use a diluted vinegar solution to clean off the deposits on the front of the tanks. If I notice fecal matter on the glass I simply set my spray bottle to 'stream' and hose the stuff off. I do water changes in new vivs once a week and after everything grows in I feel water changes aren't neccessary, aside from removing water as it gets to a certain depth. Like Melissa stated, algae is wanted and a good sign that the ecosystem is healthy. I find excessive growth on the side of my vivs due to heavy condensation...ventilation isn't exactly great but opening the vivs twice a day is sufficient in keeping the air from becoming stagnate.
