Hey Guys,

Thinking of setting up a custom made 85 gallon viv. Dimensions are 30"L x 36"H x 18" W. I was wondering how many potential pairs of Pumilio could be kept together in such a tank. It will be heavily planted. I am considering Red Bastis, Cristos, or El Dorado. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks !

one. you might be able to get away with more but i'd only suggest attempting this if you have pumilio experience.

now when i say one i mean one male. both pumilio sexes fight (brutally) but makes can and will kill wrestling opponents either directly or through stress. multiple females tend to do ok IME.

pumilio males can establish a territory much larger than your tank in the wild, so putting more than one male will increase the risks. it is feasable to put a 2.3 or 2.4 in a tank that size but you would really have to watch them closely.

I agree with James, stick with one male, especially if you are new to pumilio, but you might be able to keep 2-3 females with the male.
