OK I'm Stuck Between These 4 Species And Seeing What People Are Thinking About Each Frog. When You Vote Can You Explain Why You Chose It.

I'm brand new around here. Still, I think that this is a highly personal choice. All of the selections are hearty, easy care, starter frogs based on what I have read.

The real questions is, which one speaks to YOUR soul ? Which one makes you smile every time you see them ? Based on your avatar, it seems thaat you have already made your choice ! lol

For me it's Leucs. Easy to find. Reasonably priced. Choices within i.e. Guyana and Fine Spotted.

I have heard more than one veteran here say that with only beginners research, a serious dose of common sense, and a willingness to provide the best possible environment and care, Leucs are THE bomb-proof dart.

I started with azureus myself, and they are still one of my favorites today.

I voted for leucs/azureus, my experience with auratus was that they were very shy... plenty of people have bold ones too but it can be pretty hit/miss with them.

auratus can be shy, but lots of leaf litter and a fairly wet tank (misted every day) helps. my first and only frogs at the moment are two blue and black auratus, and even though they are in a pretty high traffic area and next to speakers for our home theater system, they are both out most of the time (keep in mind that these are one of the most shy of the auratus morphs). It seems like they get more bold with age as well. just 4 months ago i didn't see them all that much, but now they are somewhat bold. I am very pleased with my frogs. Keep your options open though. What is your favorite color?

Well, my first frog was an azureus and shortly there after I got a green and black auratus. The luec is typically the boldest and hardiest of the 4 you listed. your avatar is an auratus so I figure you like them. All these frogs are great beginner frogs. The blue auratus may be a bit more shy though.

For a first frog you really can't go wrong with leucs. They are out all the time, not shy at all, have a great call, are very hardy, and they look great. There are different green and black auratus morphs.....the Panamanians I had were very shy, while the Costa Ricans I had were a little more bold. My boldest were Ancon Hill auratus and my shyest were super-blues. My campana were similar to the CR's, not very bold, but not super-shy either.

Evseryone thank you so much. My favorite colors are the frogs lol. But the green and black k auratus pops to me but the reason I listed these 4 are they are my favorites and I'm narrowed it down to two Leucs and Costa rican greens. The Pensacola Repticon show will be here in Aug so what ever availability they have will also affect my choice also. But thank you everyone for the help and input. And your experiance

i really dont see too many green and black auratus anymore. they used to be TE beginner frog, but as new locales (like the bronze frogs) came in the green and blacks seemed to fall off the map. i think the show may make your choice for you.

It depends on how the tank is set up and if you want groups or just pairs (this would rule out tincs for group frogs for example). I would say all are great choices, but I actually really like the auratus and think they are becoming under appreciated. The green and black is really metallic and a great frog, mine have always been very bold. I've never kept blue/black, but I have hear from others they are more consistently a more shy morph. Auratus are also likely to be the cheapest of those species. I do love the call of the leucs though.
Good luck choosing, I'm sure any of those would be a great choice.

Leucs rock! I watch my 1.2 trio and I keep thinking 'pajama party'! The males have a lovely call and their color patterns are so varied, they're almost like pictures. They're easy keepers and easy breeders. If there was only one type of frog I could keep, it would most definitely be the Leuc.

Leucs have seem to be gaining a lot of popularity and to be honest the auratus are starting to get hard to come buy because they are always sold out when I look but leucs are always available. But like someone previously said I will find my frog at the show. Thanks again for the help
