This time wikipedia is pretty close to correct but I would hesitate to recommend it for culture information.

They get about a foot long. I recommend a minimum of 10 gallons of water for each adult axolotl. long tanks are better than high or extra high tanks. They rarely metamorphose. Better than 99% stay totally aquatic. They do not go on land.

Fair enough. I may have been being a bit of a frog-snob. I was just pointing out that Wiki is a good place to start for the basics (size, basic behavior). I certainly didn't mean to squash any conversation, though.

Beautiful animals BTW. Hard to believe people want albino's when these exist.

I agree 100%, I prefer the pure, wild type axolotls.

You will be hard pressed to find a pure wild type axolotl in the U.S. I saw some that were close when I visited the University of Kentucky.

I know this is old, but has anyone seen these under actinic lighting? Do they fluoresce like other animals?
