got them from black jungle at the manchester herp expo, and have a quick question. i was watching them for awhile after i put them into the tank, and i noticed the bottoms of their throats were vibrating from time to time. they'd expand and contract really quickly.

These are just froglets, though, so it can't be calling already, right?

that just the way they breath they will not call until close to a year old. good job on the new frogs
Frogs do not have a diaphram muscle like mammals. They breathe by literally forcing the air into their lungs. Air is first drawn in through the nostrils by the downdraw of the throat, then the nostrils close, and it is forced into the lungs by the contraction of the floor of the mouth. Now the lungs are filled, and the ribs conract, forcing the air back into the mouth. The floor of the mouth contracts again, the nostrils open, and the stale air exits. They can also take in oxygen through their skins.
Congrats on the new froglets. I got my two azureus from Black Jungle as well, and I'm very pleased.

The throat vibration is fun to watch, but even better is the toe-bouncing that they'll do when hunting flies. Watch the toes on their back legs pump up and down!

yeah, i haven't had time to watch too much hunting. the flies scattered really quickly when i tossed them in the tank, and i don't know how many the frogs actulaly got. only saw them eat a few...

i got a banana yesterday while i was at the store, gonna cut off a little chunk of it, and hopefully that'll attract the flies and make the frogs' dining a bit easier while they get used to the tank.

leave it to frogging to allow me to make the oddest grocery store purchase of my life... four liters of pepsi (for my roommate), a gallon of vinegar, and one slightly overripe banana... :)
the bananna will work to attract flies but will get messy if you didnt place it in a lid on plastic of some sorts. It is also good for the frogs to hunt the flies it gives them exersise. PUMPS them UP

yeah, i don't want to have fruit in there for the flies forever, i just want to make sure they're getting enough food for the next week while they learn the lay of the land, so to speak. :)
good deal and good luck... I started with 4 g/b auratus and now I have close to 60 frogs. I have just started getting more breeding pairs that gets to be even more fun in the long run

yipes. that's a lot of frogs. :)

i'm hoping to keep my acquisition rate a smidge lower than that. a few more tanks oughta do it ;-)
