I recently made my first successful fruit fly culture and it is booming, there are larvae everywhere. A day ago I started to notice all the larvae (every size) were climbing up the sides of the cup, and then they started to crowd around the edge of the lid, squeezing themselves in as far as they could go. Every hour there were more by the lid, until eventually they started actually crawling on the inside of the lid. I'm using the lids which have no fabric, but have tiny holes punched in for ventilation - because of that, some of the tiny larvae are managing to squeeze out! 😟 I glued down an extra lid which DOES have the fabric, to cover the original one so that the larvae would not jump ship and end up crawling around the house.

At this point there is no way I can open this cup without all these larvae pouring out everywhere since they crowd on the lid, what is causing this behavior??
