I read somewhere recently that you get more production from FF's by leaving a light on over the cultures 24 hrs a day. Is this true? Necessary?

The only advantage I have heard of keeping a light over FF cultures is to keep mites away. We actually keep most of our cultures in a large filing cabinet. So they don't see a lot of light and do fine, and it also helps contain the smell.

Cool, I was thinking about buying a Rubbermaid cabinet to keep the flies in. The wife is starting to complain about seeing jars of flies on her china cabinet. :D

If i keep mine in my closet that only has its light on every time i go in it (2-3 times a day) the rest of the time it will be dark, will that be okay?

Thanks,
Tom
