I was asked to care for an American Toad(Bufo americanus) by a neighborhood boy. I have been feeding him earthworms, crickets, sowbugs, and now... HBH Salamander and Newt Bites. They are a soft pellet food designed to sink into the water. I had read that the Marine Toad/Cane Toad would eat dog food, and decided to do a little experiment. The toad has eaten 3 small piles of the pellets in 3 days! LOL! Just thought I'd share!

After rereading the initial post, I feel I should clarify that the toad is housed with no water feature. I placed the pellets in an open space with no moss covering the bottom of the tank. Sorry...

Where did you get the salamander bites? I might try them on my Kweichow .

I got them at Petsmart. My newts have always loved them. Take care to not overfeed as the pellets will cause a protein film to develop on the water's surface. If that happens, simply lay a paper towel on top of the water for 1 second and lift it off. The film will be effectively removed that way.
