I guess I got a good sign tonight. I was working on my viv before dinner. I took a break to grill. I lifted the tarp and there was a treefrog! I'm new to Maryland but I'm fairly sure this is uncommon. So I did what any of us would do. Grab it and identify it. After a positive ID I let it go. Anyone know anything about the Cope's Treefrog?

I find then alot in Upstate NY. Most of the time by lisining to there calls and tracking down the tree ect they are calling from. Last time it was from a garbage can in a corporate park. I raised a couple metamorhps that I found in a fountian in the same park this summer. They are doing really well. I didnt plan on keeping them but I guess my brother wants to take care of them. They are one of my favorate frog species in the state, but nothing compares to the big old classic bullfrog.

wierd, last night something similar happened to me!
I was mowing the grass and almost ran over a nest of wood toads. there was about 10-12 of them and they were all the size of golf balls.
My girlfriend thought i was nuts because i spent about 20 minutes "relocating" all these frogs to the woods by my house. i didn't want to run them over!

Good find!

I have had many research projects with Hyla chrysoscelis here in NJ. They are a state endangered species because this is the northeastern most part of their distribution. I am actually conducting a radio telemetry study with them right now. I am trying to find out where they go after the breeding season and how late do they start to hibernate. They really do like to come out when it rains....usually at night. I have had them on the sliding glass door at my old house- they were attracted to moths that were flying around the porchlight.
