I'm looking for a cheap pump to pump water from my false bottom to the top of the enclosure (behind the background) and then I have a misting nozzle on the end. I tried the micro-jet and it wasn't powerful enough (was mine just a bad pump?). I got a pond pump and it's nozzle is 5/8 instead of 3/8, so I couldn't figure out how to fit my 3/8 nozzle on 5/8 tubing. Any help would be great!

He's right. If you took apart a fountain pump (which is what most non-misting pumps used in the hobby are) you will find that they move water with an impeller that's not sealed, IE if the pressure builds enough, water can flow back out around or through the impeller blades. You will need a special (way more expensive) pump.
