i've been looking at all sorts of builds for GS foam backgrounds but i'm still unsure of how exactly you put it in. can you just spray it directly onto the glass or do you need to cover the glass in silicone or egg crate first? i want to have wood imbedded in the the foam on the back, so i'm wondering if i should silicone them on and then fill in the remaining space with GS foam.

looking at the build on blackjungle.com it seemed like he just put the foam right on the glass, but i can't really tell that well. there is definitely some on the sides, but i don't think there is any on the back.

People use several different methods. I, myself, put the tank on it's back, and Great Stuff any wood of cork directly on the background. However, do small amounts at a time, as if you overdue it, the tank may be prone to cracking if there is not enough room for expansion.

yeah i've heard the horror stories i'll wait for it to dry fully before i add more layers and i'll put it in in thin layers. i've heard some people saying that GS doesn't stick well to glass and could just fall off, but i'm not really sure.
