I just bid on some java moss on ebay so I need to get some background knowledge. I have heard of people cutting it up. Is this recommended? If so, how fine do I chop it up? Then just lay it in the water or wettest part?

Thanks,

You can cut it up very fine, like blender fine.
I would put it in a wet area, but try to keep it out of moving water or it will mostly wash down to the catch pool. It is really great stuff.

I just put a wad of it in the catch pool in my bicolors tank and it has gone crazy since I added it last summer. It has easily travelled over 1 ft. from it's original starting point in the pond, up my ghostwood stream and has clogged that so now the water runs off the side of it.It looks nice though.
