ive done a little research on setting up vivarium for terriblis dart frogs.they suggested turface with leaves on top for their special humidity needs.is the 1/8 in a good size for this substrate? how thick a layer? amount to buy? i can buy 2 quart bags and 5 lbs bags.thank you

btw i’m wanting to use matala mat or hydro ton under the turface ,with a ground clothe between the layers.this should keep weight down..which bag mix is everyone using for terribillis?there seems to be a few choices.

I've never heard of Turface degrading. As mentioned, it's fired clay and for our purposes, essentially "rock". I have some in all of my current vivaria and there has been no change over time. I'm not saying it's the ideal substrate but it does not break down over time.
