I added a tad drop in my Tinc(Suriname Cobalt) viv. They went crazy! The 2 males were in and out of the rock slabs(sleeping quarters) and the female was in RIGHT AFTER to rub her butt down and see what is cooking! Am I seeing a courtship frenzy, and should I get a guy out of the equation? All my thanks!

Now that you mention it, I've noticed my breeding pair of auratus tend to sit in the water either before or after they've visited the coco hut. I need to pay more attention to this behavior to see if it means anything. The only thing is that the female lays every 7 to 9 days, and I just pulled a clutch yesterday ~

GuppyGal-

I believe a great deal of water is utilized in egg production by the female. I believe that is why they will breed in a distinctly wetter season. The males will use water sections when revisiting clutches. He will urinate on the eggs in order to keep them moist and "clean". Therefore he needs to dip his butt and "drink" more often. Same goes for the girlies.

On a side note:

I was an idiot and overhung some java moss into the resevoir! The moss effectively leached the water completely out over night! I am such a fool for not seeing that 1 coming! LOL! I think I will reconsider the way it was placed and make the change tomorrow, at which time I will be happy to share a pic or two!

Yup - that will do it. Maybe you ought to try 2 or 3 strands next time.

What you say makes sense. I read a lot of posts that say a water feature isn't necessary. Are there other ways that the frogs can extract enough water to do their thing? IMO, they have water puddles in the wild on hand, so why not a water feature? Maybe the naysayers are thinking that 'feature' is referring to a pump and a waterfall. Okay, so I really dig running water, but I'm thinking that the most natural looking tank will have an area low enough to collect water and pleasantly decorated as to not look like a buried cereal bowl.

That's what I'm thinking, and hey - I'd like to see how you drain a pond with java moss. You could be on to something ;)
