40b Vertical Turtle Tankin'

Well ive been out of the frog game for about four years now. What a shame the time ive lost... I picked up this "turtle tank" at petsmart for 50 bucks. Wish it was dollar a gallon season, but I was fiending for a tank. Dont really know what species I want too build the tank for yet, but definitely thumbnails. Ive got big plans for her, but patientience is the key. so far the list is as folllows;

tank: 40b turtle tank
lighting: diy custom spiral bulb fixture
fog machine: reptifogger
canister filter: zoomed 501

Im gonna do a great stuff background. Probably gonna try the titebond wood glue method for the coco/peat mixture. I tried the ace hardware peat moss technique in the past and it always turned out milky looking and took weeks too dry....

There will be a water feature, I figure I could make something work with that canister filter. The big plus is that it will be on the outside of the tank.

Obviously ive got too make some sort of top for the viv. Im gonna make a vent for the top and a lexan section too complete the enclosure. I figure this would allow me too make the tank more visible from the front and with another vent below the front door ill have that clean euro look. All the plumbing will then either enter from the top.

I just sold the snakes that were living in mine so I've developed Empty-Tank-Syndrome... Subscribed.
I bought 4 cans of gs, 3 bottle of titebond 3 ultimate wood glue and a tube of clear silicone today. gettin prepared.....

Thinking about making a horizontal tank now. Figure I could make a folding top with a living hinge and seal up the half side. That way the zoomed wouldnt have too work as hard for a water feature. Still waiting on the right amount of supplies and the good idea fairy too inspire me.

got a question on lighting. I was looking at lowes today, and I saw a 4 foot industrial light bar. said it could hold 2 t-8 sytle bulbs for a total of 64 watts. If the tank were setup horizontally would this be enough light? im planning on keeping neo broms, orchids, all that jazz. I just wonder if that would be enough light too support just about anything?
Well I went horizontal. got the fog tubes and the filter tube access cut and im dry fitting them. waitin on driftwood and all that nonsense. gonna diy some air circulation this weekend, grimms method.

weekend update. finished the false bottom and siliconed it into place. left about a 1/4 gap between the glass on all sides too fill in with ada aquasoil. started working with my mopani wood and finished the internal air circulation system. had a 3 inch pc fan but i literally caught it on fire in the kitchen trying too wire it up lol. actually caught it on fire twice tried rigging it up again later haha. circuitry is real weakness for me. but here are some pics, its a slow build but ima do it right and put everything i want into this one.

look at the depth lol
looks like someone has been paying attention to Grimm's build :p
I can't wait to use this same air duct circulation design in a future build.

Just make sure you will still be able to get to your fan....I wish I would have

looking great so far :)
I can't wait to see more
I have def used grimms tank as my inspiration. hard too beat when ya set that bar so high. i can get too the fan easily. it just drops down into the hole. i burnt that first fan right up and immediately puled that sucker out.
